The evolution of the Layout

"The layout started life as merely a test track to allow me to run the odd train as the mood takes me. It is dominated by steep gradients between the indoor section and the return loop and stations in my side garden, which means I only use the diesels on this layout due to their greater weight and traction. The layout was started in 2008, and has developed scenically indoors, it is now signalled (semaphore, lower quadrant indoors, with all engineering work being done by Bill Roebuck, and colour lights outdoors). There are six stations in total, and the layout requires three operators with walkie/talkies to function fully. A selection of DMUs are employed to make operation simpler.
The layout is completely DCC, using Lenz, including all points and signals. Apps on iphones allow wireless operation of the layout, and route setting via laptop is available.
Bill Roebuck, Tony Crouch and myself have enjoyed several enjoyable sessions operating the layout, and we are looking forward to many more!"
