Layouts 2025 - Page1
This year we have an interesting range of layouts to suit everyone's interests from O-gauge to N-gauge (and lots in-between). We even have model trams and trolleybuses! If you're not sure about the different scales and gauges, you'll find THIS GUIDE helpful.
Thunder Mountain

Brian Willcocks
This is Brian's third North American layout and continues west from Rosebud City into the Yellowstone Park region, just in Montana. Set in the 1950s.60s, Thunder Mountain is so called because of the many passing thunder storms. The sight and sound of thunder is part of the fun of the layout. The mainline has a steep gradient, and trains are shorter or have more head-end power. There is a branch to an old mine but now used primarily by leisure seekers. There are several other working accessories, and various cameo scenes. Winter prevails. Brian is a Member of the West Wales Railway Modellers and is happy to answer any questions at the Show.
Lynnbach
Ian Arkley
A fictitious 009 narrow gauge line built in 2023 set somewhere in north Wales using a variety of locos and rolling stock. It is completely freelance but with inspiration from real locations - for example, the station buildings were inspired by the staion at Minffordd on the Ffestiniog Railway. The layout runs anything narrow gauge including ready-to-run models, some H0e, and some 3D-printed locos. This layout was featured in the April 2024 edition of Railway Modeller magazine and was exhibited at the prestigious Manchester Model Railway Society Show in December 2024. West Porton
David Wood

West Porton is a British-themed 4mm 00 gauge layout featuring working trams, trolleybuses, and an overhead metro train. The trams and trains both use the overhead wires for their current - just like the real thing! It's very rare to see model trolleybuses. David used model buses and fitted them with model tram electric motors. Most of them use the Faller system for steering. The layout even features a junction where different buses follow different routes. Getting it all to work is very impressive. David is a Member of the Tramway & Light Railway Society and is happy to answer any questions at the Show.
Yr Hen Felin
Phil Thorogood
Back by popular demand. This is a SM32 layout (Scale 1:19) based on narrow gauge 2' gauge prototypes which were once common here in Wales. It's an audience participation shunting puzzle where you can get involved by driving the loco and shunting the wagons. There's lots of fun for people of all ages. Join in and have a go! Phil is a Member of the West Wales Railway Modellers and is happy to answer any questions at the Show.
